石红产量稀少，含砂成分多，可塑性低，单一矿不宜成型，常打成浆泥，一直以来都与其他矿料配合使用，以提高成色（色感和润度）及粘稠度。

用纯石红做出来的紫砂壶，不仅难以成型，成品率也是极低。
