A DISTINCTIVE RIBBED FORM

Die Lian Hua — “Butterfly Loves the Flower” — is one of Tang Xuanwu’s more recognisable sculptural forms.

The body opens through a series of flowing vertical ribs, while the lid continues the same rhythm. A butterfly-shaped finial completes the composition.

The butterfly is not simply decoration.

The entire teapot is built around the idea of butterfly and flower.

The warm Duanni clay gives the ribs greater depth under light, making the form appear more sculptural from different angles.

Made from Duanni clay, TXW002 has a warm, restrained tone that works particularly well with the ribbed body.

At approximately 200cc, it is also a highly practical size for serious tea brewing.

Tang Xuanwu’s teapots are valued not only for appearance, but also for usability.

WHY TANG XUANWU

Tang Xuanwu 汤宣武 became a Professor-level Senior Arts and Crafts Artist (正高级工艺美术师) in 2025.

She is also closely connected to an established Yixing Zisha lineage through her husband and teacher, Fan Zefeng 范泽锋.

For collectors, the timing is interesting.

Her professional standing has moved upward, while many of her works remain relatively accessible compared with the highest-priced contemporary Yixing masters.

That does not mean every work will rise in value.

But it does mean collectors can still enter her work at a stage where:

the credentials are established,
the workmanship is mature,
and the market remains relatively accessible.
