FROM THE CAI FAMILY OF JIANZHAN MAKERS
Cai Qiandi 蔡牵俤 comes from a well-established Jian Zhan family in Jianyang.
She is the younger sister of the well-known “Cai Brothers” — Cai Bingkun 蔡炳昆, Cai Binglong 蔡炳龙 and Cai Bingsheng 蔡炳盛.
The three brothers have been closely associated with the modern revival of Jian Zhan in Jianyang and developed their own long-standing approaches to traditional glaze and firing. Local Jianyang reporting describes the “Cai Brothers” as recognised figures in the revival of contemporary Jian Zhan.
For collectors, that family background gives Cai Qiandi’s work a clearer context.
This is not simply an anonymous six-cup gift set.
It comes from a recognisable Jian Zhan family tradition.
ONE BOX · SIX KILN EXPRESSIONS
The attraction of CQD046 is the variation.
All six cups share a similar small form, yet each presents a distinctly different kiln result.
Across the set, the glaze moves through combinations of:
blue, red, gold, pale spotting, metallic tones and ring-like patterns.
Placed together, the six pieces invite comparison.
One is brighter.
One is darker.
One concentrates its colour toward the centre.
Another opens outward across the bowl.
Same maker.
Same set.
Six different expressions of fire.
SMALL FORMAT, COMPLETE SET
Each cup measures approximately 65 × 36 mm.
The compact size makes them particularly suitable for tea tasting, sharing among several guests, or displaying together as a complete group.
Because the size and form remain consistent, the differences in glaze become even easier to appreciate.
The set works precisely because it is not six identical cups.
The unity comes from the form.
The interest comes from the variation.
BETTER TOGETHER
A single small Jian Zhan can be attractive.
Six related pieces tell a fuller story.
CQD046 allows the collector to see different glaze effects from one maker side by side rather than judging one isolated bowl.
That makes it an easy entry into collecting Jian Zhan by maker and kiln expression, rather than simply by colour.
It is also practical enough to use.
You can keep the set complete.
Or actually bring all six onto the tea table.
