For a collector, the importance of this bowl begins with the maker.

Sun Jianxing 孙建兴 is a Chinese Arts and Crafts Master and the sole National Representative Inheritor of the Jian Kiln Jianzhan Firing Technique, a National Intangible Cultural Heritage project of China.

Beginning in 1979, he participated in the research and revival of Jian Zhan firing and became one of the defining figures in the modern return of this historic ceramic tradition.

His works have entered major national museum collections in China.

This is therefore not simply a Persimmon Red Jian Zhan.

It is a Persimmon Red work by Sun Jianxing.

Persimmon Red does not rely on dramatic spots or brilliant crystallisation.

The iron-rich glaze develops layered tones of red, brown and deep earthy colour, giving the bowl a warm, mature and almost aged character.

孙建兴，中国工艺美术大师，国家级非遗“建窑建盏烧制技艺”唯一的国家级代表性传承人。

自1979年起参与建窑建盏烧制技艺的恢复研究，是现代建盏复兴的重要代表人物。
